DANCES

"Piros alma lóg a fán,
Csak egy csókra fáj a szám.
Ha a csókot megkapnám,
Nem fájna többet a szám "
"My bow is shining,
The lover is angry
The more angry he is
It's all the more shining"
In 2024 at the Dance Camp we are learning Hungarian folk dances from an area called Küküllőmente in Transylvania (Erdély)!
The Maros-Küküllő region dialect is bordered by the Maros valley in the north and west. Towards the east, it merges into the Székelyföld around the line of the Marosvásárhely–Segesvár highway. Its southern continuation can be represented by the scatterings in the Nagy-Küküllő and Maros valleys.
This southernmost, peripheral Hungarian dance dialect has preserved its ancient features not only in men's dances, but also in couple dances, and even the female round dance with singers, which is rare in Transylvania, is almost only found here.
The region's representative men's dance at the beginning of the cycle, the pontozo, is danced in an improvised individual form as well as in group unison.
The slow pontozo (ritka pontozo, old, poor) occurs in the western and central part of the region as an occasional dance of the older generation in individual or double form, after the sűrű pontozo.
Couple dances are old, the simplest revolving ones. Fast-paced, very dynamic dance.
As in most parts of Transylvania, here too the role of the melody is played by the violin. This violin playing differs from the "classical" rules in sound formation, string treatment, and decoration technique.
